Random Vibration Theory

Earthquake ground motions (GMs) cannot be predicted deterministically. Significant uncertainties make a deterministic analysis impossible. Random vibration theory or technique is a way of formulating the estimation of expected GM values at sites based on the uncertainties and statistical distributions of the causative parameters using stochastic and probability models.
