Paleoseismic data are the geologic signatures of earthquakes in Holocene time. The best examples are the fault scarps of earthquakes. Figure 1 shows surface displacement from the M7.3 Landers California 1992 earthquake. Paleoseismic data can provide valuable information on the dates and the displacements of past earthquakes on faults. During the last few decades, Paleoseismic data has played a significant role in earthquake hazard analysis.
