Constructing Regional Seismicity Models Using Geodetic Data

Region-Wide Parameters Shared by Both Sets

Parameters that Can Be Changed for Each Set

Seismogenic Depth (km):

Set1: Set2:

GR Max Magnitude:

Set1: Set2:

b-Value:

Set1: Set2:

CH EQ Magnitude:

Set1: Set2:

  • Geodetic Strain Rate: The average annual surface strain rate. It is assumed that the volume of rocks underlying the region, defined by {(area) * (seismogenic depth)}, is experiencing the given strain rate.
  • GR Max Magnitude: The upper bound magnitude for the Gutenberg-Richter type earthquakes
  • b-Value Controls the relative occurrences of small, medium, and large earthquakes in a GR distribution
  • CH EQ magnitude: The mean of a normal magnitude distribution, SD of 0.24 unit of magnitude, representing potential characteristic earthquakes within the region

To test the impact of individual parameters on magnitude-rate distribution, set Set2 parameters the same as those of Set1, then change the value of a single parameter to see the impact
